Xinjiang cotton is famous for its long velvet, good quality, and high yield. The soil and climatic conditions in Xinjiang are different from those in other places, and the maximum amount of sunlight can reach more than 18 hours.
At the time of the founding of the Peoples Republic of China, Xinjiang produced 5,100 tons of cotton, accounting for only 1.1% of the countrys total output (444,000 tons). The foundation of cotton production in Xinjiang is weak because the Chinese Peoples Liberation Army stationed in Xinjiang and put into production (Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps), starting the "Xinjiang miracle" process of cotton production, and then going through the stages of cultivating improved seeds, popularizing the whole Xinjiang, and improving technology, the rapid increase in the cotton planting area, the continuous optimization of the total output and the unit yield of the area, and the improvement of economic benefits year by year benefiting many cotton farmers.
In 2020/2021, Xinjiangs cotton output was 5.2 million tons, accounting for about 87% of domestic output and 67% of domestic consumption. In 2021, Xinjiang will focus on cotton planting areas to large cotton-planting counties and more than 30 million mu of cotton planting will be withdrawn from the sub-optimal cotton area, low-yield cotton area, and fruit cotton intercropping cotton area in the whole region, and the cotton planting area of the whole region (including the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps) will be 37.18 million.
